Absolut's first CD, SING RESPONSIBLY is now available!
The day has finally come! Absolut A cappella's premiere CD, SING RESPONSIBLY is now available! After months in the making, the CD is complete and ready for purchase. The eleven track CD features some of Absolut's most popular songs such as Lollipop, Don't Stop Believing, No One, Sunday Morning, and more... including a special bonus track! This CD consists of both live and professional studio recorded tracks. Recording was completed by a professional staff in a studio in Oyster Bay, Long Island. Most of the live/acoustic tracks were recorded right on the New Paltz campus with the help of Absolut's own Craig Shayowitz and Matt Strebel. The impressive album art is the work of New Paltz student, Matt Monath. The CD first premiered in Bliss Hall at an exclusive CD release party, where the CD was received with great reviews. You can pick up your copy at any Absolut A Cappella event, or by contacting Absolut members directly.
Absolut Shocks the Competition in Oyster Bay with a Win
Tuesday, November 11th, 2008: 1:37pm
On November 8th, New Paltz's Absolut A Cappella went down to Oyster Bay to compete in the Long Island A Cappella Challenge. Other featured schools were from Cornell, UMass, Columbia, BU, Yale and Harvard. The benefit competition was conducted in ICCA judging format as the national a cappella competition. Judges included former members of collegiate a cappella groups that had also gone to compete in the ICCA competition. In a very intense competition, New Paltz was announced at the end as the 'outstanding performance' and was announced the winners. Their set included Viva La Vida, Lollipop, Say (All I Need) and No One. At the end they were asked to perform an encore, so they performed their crowd favorite, Jump in the Line (Senora).
Earlier that day, Absolut also had the opportunity to record their first ever CD in the Oyster Bay Recording Studio. Tracks to look forward to include those heard in the competition, and a few other classics. Look for our CD release date in the future, sometime in January of 2009.
New Paltz's Absolut A Cappella would like to thank Oyster Bay HS for their amazing hospitality this weekend. Also to Dan Friendman, the Chair of Fine Arts at OBHS. Dan exceeded expectations with this event and recording opportunity and it could not have been done without his assistance. They also would like thank all the other groups who performed that evening to help raise money for a music program that deserves all the best.
Absolut Welcomes Two New Members
Saturday, September 6th, 2008: 3:17pm
Absolut would like to introduce the two newest members to join the group. They are Katie "Kochem" Koch and Kristyn "Ingly" Lang. Katie is the newest alto to the join the group and Kristyn is the newest soprano. On behalf of everyone in the group: "WELCOME!" Katie and Kristyn were selected from a group of over 40 girls that auditioned. In addition to congratulating them for making it so far, we would also like to thank everyone that came out to audition. There were so many talented girls that auditioned, and we wish we could have accepted more! Please come audition again in the future, and we will see you at our shows throughout the year. Thanks for the support! Once again, congrats to Katie and Kristyn!
A New Year, A New Group
Wednesday, August 20th, 2008: 12:57am
Well, it's about time. Time for school to start again, old friends to reunite, and to SING! That's right, coming in less that 2 WEEKS are the open auditions for Absolut A Cappella. We will be auditioning all parts as always and can't wait for your turn out!
The audition days are Weds, Sept 3rd from 6:30-10pm and Thurs, Sept 4th from 6:30-10pm.
The audition consists of one verse and chorus of any song of your choosing. We do request however no Broadway or Opera (because those styles do not showcase your voice for a cappella, just your belting ability and vibrato). Then it will be followed by some brief pitch matching and voice range test (to see what voice type you are). These tests will be done for only a panel of three members to make the experience as relaxed and laid back as possible. After both days of auditions you will be called after the Thursday audition times and informed if we would like to hear you again or not.
The callbacks will consist once again of a verse and chorus, preferably of a different song than your first audition. Then you we'll do a blending exercise with the members of our group (yes, the second audition will be in front of the majority of the group). This is to see how your voice fits in the sound of the group. Finally we will just sit down and talk for a little bit, get to know who you are as a person. Nothing serious just very laid back questions as random as 'What was your favorite cartoon character growing up?'. Like we said...nothing serious. Then after all the callbacks are done we will call everyone and let them know who has made the group and who we can't fit in this semester.
We can't wait to start this year off with a BANG! and can't wait to see you all there!
Wow...
Monday, May 12th, 2008: 8:00pm
Exactly 48 hours ago, Studley Theater was packed with friends, family, video cameras and fans for the final concert of the year. This event was hosted by Absolut A Cappella and featured the Sexy Pitches. Every single song that was performed was followed by thunderous applause. Never in the history of these fine groups has a concert, featuring them solely, been so packed. From the premiere of 'She's So High' to the reunion with old favorites like 'Don't Stop Believing', everything was fantastic.
Absolut A Cappella would like to thank their loyal friends and family for supporting them in a year that hopefully no one can forget. The group itself raised the bar for where it shall go in the future and everyone is excited to see what lies ahead. Keep in touch and we'll be back for the '08-'09 season with information about open slots for future new members!
The Big Day
Thursday, April 30th, 2008: 6:43pm
After a long grueling semester, Absolut A Cappella is ready to show what THEY got in the big end of the year concert. On Friday night, at 8pm, the seats of Studley Theatre in SUNY New Paltz will be packed with friends, family, and fans. As per the tradition, the Sexy Pitches will be joining Absolut in the concert entitled 'The Second Annual - Absolut Sexiest Show On Campus'. Both groups will be premiering new songs and the fans could not be more excited. Both groups have worked extremely hard to get where they are and in one year, their popularity has skyrocketed so high, that other countries are recognizing them as groups to be noticed.
For more information on this concert or any other matter regarding Absolut A Cappella, feel free to contact Absolut via the 'Contact' tab on the top of the screen. On a personal note, as Webmaster, I wish good luck to both groups and can't wait to show off what we've all worked for so hard this past year.

Absolut takes over Drew University
Tuesday, April 29th, 2008: 2:16am
At 36 Madison Avenue on the night of April 26th, Absolut A Cappella invaded Drew University in New Jersey and took over. The hosts of the event, 36 Madison Avenue, ran a Jamfest '08 campaigning theme that tied the show together quite well. With performance classics like Senora and Here it Goes Again, the crowd howled with laughter and screamed for joy as their hands applauded the group. All the groups within Drew University wowed the crowd, even with the visiting 'team' hitting home run after home run. All-in-all it was a fun successful weekend for Absolut A Cappella. Thanks again Drew for having us!!!
SUCCESS!!!
Tuesday, April 1st, 2008: 3:16pm
The First Annual No Strings, No Brass, No Problem! Invitational concert was a HUGE success. The show started off with a rousing rendition of Senora by Absolut to get the crowd pumped up. Following this opening act, the Potsdam Pointercounts wowed the crowd with their award winning harmonies and a few slick dance moves. Then the Sexy Pitches brought a little sass to the stage and held down the estrogen level of the show. After one more number (Lollipop) by Absolut the crowd took a break for intermission.
Once order was restored and the house lights went down, the Albany Earthtones brought showed us their stuff and let the world know that you don't need a mixed group to sound amazing. Last but not least Absolut rocked the stage with their world premiere arrangement of Say (All I Need) by OneRepublic.
Crowd reactions we're nothing but positive and it ended up being a very profitable fund raiser for the VH1 Save the Music Foundation. All in all the night was a huge hit and Absolut would like to thank everyone who was involved with the event.
Performance Updates!
Wednesday, March 12th, 2008: 4:17pm
As many already know, Absolut plans to hold an invitational on Saturday, March 29th at 8pm in Studley Theatre. Word of this has spread across the SUNY New Paltz Campus and the excitement to see the Albany Earthtones performing is a thrill in its own. By some strange coincidence, the SUNY Potsdam Pointercounts will be in town on that day and now will be joining Absolut, the Earthtones, and the Sexy Pitches for the Spring Invitational. This means more bang for your buck with some of the hottest a cappella groups in the tri-state area.
Speaking of tri-state area, on April 26th Absolut will now be performing with Drew University's '36 Madison Avenue' at their JAMFEST!. This invitational will be the first time this year Absolut travels abroad to perform but hopefully many more opportunities will arise.
Keep a look out here for more information regarding your favorite a cappella group, Absolut A Cappella!
International Popularity Hits
Saturday, March 1st, 2008: 4:14pm
After their long awaited return to the performance stage, Absolut A Cappella finally was back on the performance stage in Bevier Hall on February 28th. With the reintroduction of 'Senora' and world premiere of 'Lollipop', the performance was a hit and immediately posted onto YouTube for fans to enjoy over and over again. No one ever expected their popularity to leave the States, but the internet is a wonderful thing.
Recently on a French Mika fan site, Absolut A Cappella's arrangement of Mika was video posted and fans of Mika went nuts. Shortly after, other videos began to arise on the Mika site from Absolut A Cappella that weren't even Mika...the fans still went nuts over them. Also the President of Absolut A Cappella, Emma Simon, has received word from British fans saying how great the group is and the word is spreading rapidly in Britain.
With new fan bases now in England and France, who knows what else the internet can bring to the success of the rapidly growing popularity of this group. Maybe they'll be invited to perform for Mika themselves at this rate....but let's not get our hopes up...
