ABOUT US
Who are we? When do we perform? Why is there no 'E'?
Who are we?
We are Absolut A Cappella, the premiere co-ed a cappella group in SUNY New Paltz!
Our goal is to spread the word to all of New Paltz/New York/Milky Way that a cappella is not a bunch of music geeks who can make weird noises, but that a cappella is a bond between friends who love each other and have a common interest; And exploring that interest of a cappella is not a bad thing at all.
Check this out...
A Cappella -
1)Vocal music or singing without instrumental accompaniment, or a piece intended to be performed in this way.
2)Italian for 'like in the chapel (music)'; the term is due to restrictions on the use of instruments in medieval churches.
CAUTION! - A Cappella is often misspelled as 'a capella', which is derived from the Latin spelling (but in Latin...capella means small goat), or even 'acappella'.
...Now being that in New Paltz, NY we don't have any small goats, medieval churches or inhibitions, in 2001, Absolut A Cappella was founded!
When do we perform?
Absolut A Cappella performs all across the SUNY New Paltz Campus. Regular 'Dorm Performances' rotate approximately biweekly along with gigs in the main town of New Paltz. We also love to travel and invite groups to come up/down to perform at SUNY New Paltz with us! In the past we have performed for Relay for Life; we also have opened for the Miami Theatre Players and the world famous Second City Comedy Troupe.
In the spring of 2007 we traveled to the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in upstate New York to perform with the Potsdam Pointercounts and the RPI Rusty Pipes, followed by an appearance with 36 Madison Ave. at their annual JamFest in 2008. In November of 2008 and AGAIN in November 2009, we competed and WON against many other competitive schools!
Why is there no 'E' in Absolut?
We're in college... We're lazy so we didn't feel like adding in that one 'e'... yeah... that's why...
